MEMORIAE AETERNAE / R P Eagle standing front, wings spread and head turned to left. RIC 110. Hammered edges and somewhat corroded, otherwise, about very fine.


The edge of this small memorial coin has been hammered flat to form a flange on both sides of the coin, giving it the shape of a contorniate. Perhaps it was used as a gaming piece, but unless such 'mini-contorniates' are found in a gaming context, we can only speculate on its use.
